I mean if you’re trying to go during what will inevitably be a peak time in a super crowded and relatively expensive city...maybe just be prepared to pay for it?
i stayed at an airbnb in japan fwiw. no issues really. nobody will ask you anything anyway, since the culture is to never talk to strangers. if they do, you have to say you’re a friend... not that you’re renting.
airbnb is probably the way to go
@OP actually Japan legalized AirBnB last year to make sure there’s rooms for visitors during the Olympics

airbnb maybe although how are you calculating distance? 2 hours can be 20-30 min there on the bullet train
