I’m at my step dad’s lake house and it’s in a gated very upper class neighborhood. There was a holiday party last night and it was incredible how much people were gossiping and talking crap about other people at this party. Everyone was very “successful” and wealthy, and it was just so weird seeing all of this drama and gossip from people who seem to have it all.

Gossip isn’t necessarily bad. It promotes social bonding and creates tacit accountability. It’s literally what makes us the social animals we are.

I want me friendships and relationships to be based off more than just talking bad about others. Yes venting can be good but that’s if it’s constructive. If all you’re doing is whining and complaining to each other, no thanks

Gossip is also what bonds people. I do think as professionals we should try to reflect on it a bit. I tend to go along with the flow but I don’t keep spreading the gossip if you know what I mean

I have a possible opportunity at Protiviti. Coming from big4 and wondering if Protiviti has fairly similar perks. I’ve read the 2022 benefits guide and it gave a oddly low PTO count of 16 days. Already heard WLB is better and the culture, but I feel like I’ve gotta find that out first hand. Protiviti

PTO & sick time PLUS self care days. Flexibility. Etc. the one thing we’re lacking is structure and honestly im burnt out and overwhelmed with my work load and I know I could be getting paid around 10-15k more for similar work. Anyone gone to corporate and regretted it? Loved it?

If I max out my traditional 401k and have a mortgage interest deduction to against my w-2 taxes does it mean I can pay way less taxes than a average person who makes same amount salary as me?

How did you get up the courage to invest? I max out the annual allowable contribution amount for my 401K, but otherwise I’ve got everything in savings. I have no debt, just a bunch of excess cash I’m too scared to do anything with. I know this is irrational - I’m above the FDIC-insured amount and I’m also losing value to inflation. I’d like to get to a position where I have maybe 14 months’ expenses in cash and the rest in investments (probably low-fee index funds).

Every night for like the past month I’ve been getting incredibly emotional about adulthood. I miss the lack of responsibility, the simplicity of life, friends were always around, and less pressure to be successful.

I’m 3 years out of college now so it’s not like I just started doing this stuff, but I am feeling the exact same feeling as I did when I first started work and just wanted to be back in college. I know I just need to grow up and accept that’s how life is but it’s incredibly upsetting

However, I feel burnt out on the constant stream of divisive bickering and toxicity.

For the first time in my life, I don't want to know what's happening in the world and I don't care who wins.
