We have been closed or have an Institute Day on Election Day for the past 20+ years because most of the schools in our district are used as polling places.

That is interesting. Did you have to actually be at school, or have to do the PD at home?
I've seen that some districts are closing schools because of security concerns if school facilities are used as polling places. And some states are putting the National Guard on standby. I'm more concerned about violence toward the end of the week if the people spreading conspiracy theories really amp up their incitement. We'll be in session on Tuesday and I'm hoping it'll be a more or less ordinary week.

Our week was actually pretty mild. We had one teacher make a big rant on Social Media, but she was pretty quiet at school.
PD day for us. We have to be in the building. No school for students.
Same for Nevada!
We're closed here for the day. Schools are used for polling sites in the neighborhoods.

Isn't it funny that we can't talk politics to our students, but schools can be polling centers
We're out as well! But I think it's been like that for a long time, from what I understand. So as far as I know there's nothing suspicious or weird about it. I wish everyone could get time off to go vote!

It was nice having the day off. At least we didn't have to counter Political questions all day.
Professional Development all day.
I work in a conservative, rural community. My husband works in a liberal, activist, city school. I'm in session, he is closed for the day. His school has been closed every election day for the past four years. My school has never closed for election day.

I just think it's odd that some districts are closed, and others are open. It is also odd that aome schools are virtual days, some have PD, and others are just out
I'm assuming we are out
My home district is closed on Election Day and my understanding is because a lot of schools are polling places!

We only have a few schools used as polling centers. We do have a few churches and community centers that are used, also.
We have school on election day and our high school is used as a polling place.
My school district is in session on election day, but my husband's is closed for the day - not virtual, just closed.
Many schools are used as polling locations and you don't want a bunch of people walking in and out of the school "unchecked" with the children at school.

That's a for sure! The elementary schools in our area, have always just locked down the doors that separate the gym arra
Our district was business as usual. I'm mildly surprised that there isn't, as of yet, rioting and discord because of Trump winning.

Same. Maybe people are still in shock. I just hope there isn't any craziness as time moves forward.
We are closed on election days because our school buildings are used as polling places.
Teachers are out on Presidential Election Day, so in that year they don’t get Veteran’s Day! To be clear, never both! So on Non-Election Years they get Veteran’s Day!
