How has COVID affected your workload, if at all? My group has a lot more work to do, and less resources with which to do it. But I don't worry about layoffs, so overall I'm happy to be where I am.

Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. I'm at a small firm with 2 associates and 1 managing partner. The partner fired our 1 paralegal and now puts a lot of paralegal work on me. I'm the first female attorney this firm has had in over 30 years. I'm not allowed to bill for the paralegal work and already have to meet 40 billables/wk. The other associate is a man but has the exact same credentials/experience as me, but gets more cases/high stakes cases and is never asked to do paralegal work. Am I delusional to think my boss is sexist?

I’m finding that a weird side effect of losing my job in this climate is ad agencies taking advantage of my weakened position. They get in touch, proactively or in response to my reaching out, and they want to hire me as they are in good shape. When I reveal I was laid off, the offer changes to freelance or maybe nothing. My work, awards, the fact that they know me and approached me in the first place should be enough. I don’t want to lie about my situation. Any ideas how to avoid this?
