Having to deal with the emotional aftermath of euthanasias never get easier. They only ever make more sense as time goes on.
One of my doctors told me, "Euthanasia is a medical treatment; it's a remedy for disease," and that was all I needed to hear because it was so simple and "common sense."
I like that thinking!
It greatly depends on whether the animal appears "ready" or if they are still demonstrating a strong will to survive. The ones that kill me are the ones that just don't seem to want to die.
It's not easy, but it helps to remember that euthanasia means "good death," and that it's the last act of compassion you can perform for a beloved animal. In the end, everything stems from a place of love.
Although they will all sting, they won't all hurt in the same way. In other instances, I've also felt relieved for the animal because of the circumstances in which they were living and the fact that it was long past their time. Euthanasia, in my opinion, is a gift that even our own species cannot receive.
