The W Union Square is awesome and recently renovated. The Westin Grand Central is nice, as are most of the East Side properties. There’s also a fun Moxy near Times Square that has an excellent rooftop bar (the only reason I’d intentionally stay at a Moxy).

like

As I said, I would generally never stay at a Moxy. They all have tiny rooms, without closets and other strange features…but the rooftop bar is cool.

The Edition properties are great, but expensive

like

Marquis Times Square was a bit further from the office but it was excellent

Le Meridian is good too

Edition

Also like the JW against Central Park

There is an autograph just north of canal in soho that’s quite nice. It’s not midtown / Chelsea obviously- but really close to almost every subway and more fun at night.

Also- somehow nobody mentioned the St Regis!!?!?

The Lexington Hotel is excellent

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Should I stay at a company I know I like culture-wise when my manager said they will try to promote me, but with no guarantee. Or should I take a job offer I was given with a nice raise, but is in consulting at Slalom. I have not worked in consulting before. There is no travel with Slalom, but the idea of being the new person all the time isn’t too appealing. Less pay and known culture, or more pay unknown job satisfaction?

Today's tip: Your resume (and cover letter) should target the specific position. The easiest way to do this is to edit your professional summary and key skills sections (which should comprise the top third of your resume) to reflect the qualifications required or desired in the job posting. So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
