Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?
PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express

I think everyone is missing the point where OP says spend $30,000/yr on a credit card
Not too difficult if you can use it for hotel stays
In the case of United, spending $25K on their credit card will only waive the PQD qualifier. You’d still need to get the PQM or PQS to get to the status. And the PQD waiver doesn’t apply to 1K either
Not quite the same thing, but with AA, they’ll normally offer you to “buy up” to maintain your current status if you don’t requalify for somewhere between $500-2500 depending on level. If you’re going to miss by a lot and really want status, this can be cheaper than doing mileage runs and you don’t have to spend time actually flying.
I’d be curious what airline your director was referring to. Many have cards where high spend will get you something like 10,000 elite qualifying miles, but that’s not enough for even the lowest tier status.

Use plastiq to pay your rent and you’re half way there already
My Army EOD friends refer to plastique as slang for plastic explosives.
