Maybe just the love of learning? You don't need to make it a career just because you are interested in the subject.
Sure- our students have a love for learning . Or we’ve convinced them they require college to succeed in life (choice of majors not necessary). Do we put the same emphasis for certifications that will give them a pathway to financial independence like - dental assistant, radiology tech , sonogram tech, paramedic , police officer, air traffic controller, LVN, mechanic, welder , firefighter, electrician? Instead we focus on pushing college for everyone vs offering the 70% who won’t graduate with debt and a worthless degree.
It’s to build the government bureaucracy. My state’s commission on teacher credentialing tried to pass a motion allowing social justice and critical studies majors to be able to receive a multiple and single subject credential in social sciences without requiring CSET tests. Because applied sciences and critical studies are the same. It’s a job placement program for government DEI/SEL/Wellness and Flourishing departments and teaching positions at high school, community colleges and universities. It’s to delay or inhibit families and lower standards for entry to those who can take one online college level math class for the 40 + majors ending in studies that has no market demand. That’s what the government is for right now?
