What are your best strategies for surviving the billable hour grind without completely burning out? Client demand is picking up, goals are moving, and I’m spending my weekends chasing a goal I never reach. Absolutely drained.

1. Manage self care very carefully
2. Bill every hour you work
3. Be ruthlessly efficient at work. Don’t mess around on your phone or on the internet.
4. Maximize your minoring time to recharge. Get outside. Stay mostly off social media. Hang out with friends. Do things that make you happy. Get a meaningful hobby and work at it.

Efficiency, self care, and balance are the keys.

Everything Teacher 1 said.

+ Bill as you go. Do not wait until the end of the week. By the end of everyday, your hours for the day should be in the system. Also, read the firm rules carefully. Some firms allow for side projects to count towards billing (papers, articles, volunteering, etc.). If this is the case, use those easy flex hours to fill out the days/weeks you are slow (be sure to do the actual work)

Hi everybody.
Right now I’m working as a junior product engineer in Amsterdam. From januari on I’ll be a medior product engineer. And now I’m in the middle of negotiating about my salary increase. The salary that I’m being offered feels low (41.5k).
Is there an other product engineer that could tell me if my gut feeling is right or not? Thanks in advance!

I received an offer for 80k to work as a desktop engineer for TCS at one of their client’s locations. However, I have seen poor reviews for working at TCS and I’d like to get some feedback from anyone currently or had previously worked for that company. What is the environment like and has anyone been in a situation where the contract with TCS and the client ended and had trouble with TCS finding them a new role at the same pay?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? TIA!

Coming up on one full year at an ID firm. Feeling overwhelmed with my experience so far. I’ve received minimal training/feedback unless it was on something I messed up. It feels like the expectations don’t align with my level of experience. I have a case load of 45-55 with very little oversight or involvement from partners. Turnover is extremely high, as I’m the second longest tenured associate in the office. Looking for some guidance on whether this is the norm or not. Compensation is low 80’s.

I’m a second year BigLaw associate that pays market. I was offered the position at a modified salary and hourly expectation due to their expected work flow needs. I’m wondering what is the best way to approach the topic of getting on the full salary/hours. Do I wait until the bonuses are given at the end of my first year? Or bring it up at mid-year review? I won’t have any problem meeting my hourly so I’m starting to think I’m being underpaid. I’ve been reading on here that not meeting
