Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay: first wine a vendor taught me about to have at business dinners. I couldn’t continue drinking bud lights or mixed drinks with clients.

Merry Edwards Pinot Noir: having a go-to Pinot for dinners that is not only good, affordable but delicious. Always helps to be the one that can actually pick a wine from a list.

White Rose Estate: anything here. The history of this place is great. The winery is out of a movie and the wine is the best I’ve ever tasted.

Russian river 🇷🇺 Chardonnay has been a fave of mine

like

Frank Family Cab - drinkable right from bottle opening, smooth, bold, just an overall fantastic bottle. Frank’s more limited bottles like RHF are incredible. Caymus Cab is probably my number one wine though.

like

RHF is amazing.

Had this line up recently and the ‘86 Mouton might be my wine of the year if not past 3 years

Me too. Love Lopez, gotten damn expensive, and mysterious had a Grand Reserva Blanco disappear and a Grand Reserva Red break during a move. Cubillo still affordable. Bought a ‘54 at a wine shop for 15 EUR but that was ~15 years ago

like

Gainey Limited Selection Pinot Noir. It has been my favorite wine for almost 20 years. The vineyard is amazing. Their Pinot grapes are all grown at their ranches. It is smooth, buttery, and amazing. It ages very nicely.

like

Anything Schramsberg produces. If you like sparkling, the quality and price are unmatched! Plus the history of the brand is very interesting.

like

Alpha Omega cabs have quickly become one of my favorites!

like

Black Chicken Zin by Biale - so good!!! And I love anything from Parés Baltà. Beautiful Spanish wines, lovely vineyard.

like

Pontet-Canet or Leoville Barton because of their incredible balance and approachability.

Shout out to Paul Hobbs Cabernet and Silver Oak, the two wines a businessman introduced me to “way back when” I waited tables.

like

Seaver Vineyards GTS & NLS. Because they’re outstanding cabs and not sold commercially

Trimbach, Weinbach, Knoll, R Lopez de Heredia, Cvne

I’m not a wine expert by any stretch at all, but this was incredible. Not too sweet, aged in bourbon barrels gave a slightly Smokey caramel flavor. Absolutely delicious.

Incredible value for these wines! Good find

Caymus and Chateau de Beaucastel.

Did a party when I first got into wine and someone offered up bottles of special select and Beaucastel that I still go back to as my all time favorites.

Dry. Acidic nose. But for $10 this wine is amazing. Where else can you find a ‘14 vintage for that cost. I Get nectarine hints maybe plum. Very little body. Mild tannin; I wouldn’t mind putting out for guests. If you’re going for something dry, acidic, in the red department, can’t complain. I picked this one up from Trader Joe’s. Hope you find this helpful!

Any recommendations on getting into wine? I love other specialty beverages (3rd wave coffee, craft beer), but struggle to “figure out” wine.

The ability to get involved with local beer and coffee producers has been a huge factor for me, so I’m guessing the comparative lack of local wine producers has contributed to me struggling to understand more of the process, culture, tasting notes, etc.

I need advice from the collective. It seems like there is a trend to sell wine in unique bottles. The only problem with this, those bottles will not fit into my wine fridge. Has anyone transferred wine to standard bottles and are you concerned about the wine one it hits the air? I’ve looked at vacuum stoppers but not sure if this is a good idea or not.
