Out of pure curiosity, does anyone in here currently work in the wine industry? I’m interested to get a sense of experience levels here. (Not that it matters at all! We all learn at our own pace.)

I work in wine media now, but pre-pandemic was a Sommelier in restaurants in NYC.

Have any of my fellow corporate wine professionals made their way onto Fishbowl yet? 🍷

I’m a restaurant server…but haven’t done any wset or equivalent yet. Would love to eventually though

I worked hotels and restaurants for 10 years and made the switch to retail a few years back. Studying for my diploma now, and have some winery experience.

I am studying for my WSET level 2 right now in hopes to switch into industry with some more experience

former wine researcher, starting WSET diploma soon…probably

Working on it

I’m currently studying for my WSET Level 1 and considering going directly into Level 2 after. Planning to go into direct to consumer sales.

My dream job but I am afraid I would no longer be able to buy the wines I enjoy

I’ve got a friend in Dubai who has experience in IB and VC at junior levels (in London and Dubai) and would like to break into consulting. He’s at a small cap VC at the moment and works not that challenging, and he wants to break into MBB or tier 2 for strategy. Anyone happy to look at his CV?

I am currently a year from finishing my PhD and was looking at VC's as a career path because I like to do meta-analysis of different climate change techs. I networked with VCs and one of them was receptive but didn't have the budget currently for a full time hire. They said they'd be interested in working with me to do a research paper over the coming semester, and was wondering if I could leverage this into a full time offer?

Is a white paper with a VC going to be attractive on my CV?

I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. Big fan of this one. Not super bold. More velvety. Subtle leathery taste, hints of vanilla! I picked up a half case for 120, or $20 a bottle! I may actually buy more. 8/10 for price and taste. Very elegant.

Any recommendations on getting into wine? I love other specialty beverages (3rd wave coffee, craft beer), but struggle to “figure out” wine.

The ability to get involved with local beer and coffee producers has been a huge factor for me, so I’m guessing the comparative lack of local wine producers has contributed to me struggling to understand more of the process, culture, tasting notes, etc.
