If they deemed it wasn’t a threat and rendered it basically inert by jamming its signals, which they claimed they did, I don’t see any issues with the way they handled it. It also gave them time to study it and learn what they could from it, before safely shooting it down over relatively shallow water.
It also removed any shadow of a doubt of China’s intent, as we got to see exactly where it was heading unimpeded.
I’m not mad about it.
I hope we got some good information too. How could they know faster. It wasn't too easy,
The "Spy Balloon" concept has raised many questions about privacy and security. From a technological standpoint, it's important to ensure that these advancements are not misused and are in line with ethical and legal standards.
China already got the info they want through the means of corporate espionage, reverse engineering, and tiktok in y’all’s pockets. The balloon was just a distraction
That's exactly what I said... It seemed like a distraction!
Should’ve been shot down on sight. Guess the ‘big man’s’ 10% covered the toll to pass through our airspace.
Any idea what happens to a 2,000 lbs object when it falls 60,000 feet into a residential area? I am sure you would have a different answer if someone suggested dropping a Volkswagen on your house from 12 miles in the air.
I’d imagine weapons release authority for shooting down something over CONUS outside of training ranges is pretty restrictive. Probably requires executive office oversight ?
War is an extension of politics. The US and China aren’t in a shooting war so there’s no need currently to delegate that authority lower. Executive branch would like to be able to control interactions with China as much as possible (politics). I’d think the only revision would be any refinements on notifications to give more decision making time to Executive branch. But I’m just some rando with an opinion 🤷♂️

The fact any General/Admiral passed this sort of thing up to chain to the president rather than taking action under the authority they most definitely have, is concerning
I agree! There might be some issues of authority in critical situations.
Optics look bad regardless of reasonings for letting it chill for so long
They said they were jamming the signal. Which may have been enough. I would have loved to have seen a more creative solution that would make it possible to bring the thing down intact. Although that may not be necessary either.
I couldn’t believe John Dutton didn’t have Rip shoot it down when it was over Montana.
Who could have imagined! I still can't believe it.
Game over man!
Crazy right? I wonder how long the spy balloon was up there for real.
Should’ve shot it down sooner. We look weak af not responding fast enough. China bad
I wonder why it took so long. I hope more news keeps coming.
What are they going to learn from a balloon ? Nothing. Their days have better resolution. It's a dog and pony show to give the sheep something to perseverate about.
I just hope they learn something man! At least something positive has to come out of this situation.
I’m assuming leadership made reasonable decisions based on all of the information available, but there are definitely areas for criticism.
That is true. It could have gone wrong if it hadn't been real spies.
It's the easiest way for another country to do anything against ours. We are a very high tech country and low tech is where we are the weakest at.
We’re 100% being lied to. But by who?
The government for sure.
Says not days. Auto correct sucks some days or sats.
It just isn't going to let me put (sats) it has to be satellite. oh well
For those that thought it should’ve been shot down sooner, the US just shot down an object angels 4-0 over Alaska!
I'm googling it now! Thanks for sharing!
Something else shot down earlier today in Canada.
F-15’s just scrambled out of McChord a few minutes ago. Wtf is going on.
I know! Same thing, I'm thinking.
