What gives you your sense of purpose? I'm recently separated. Making great money. The military used to give me that "what I do matters" feeling. Looking for it elsewhere.... Probably just need to think a little smaller and appreciate where I'm at 🤷‍♂️

My job funds my lifestyle for my family and I. The money generated funds experiences and an opportunity at a highly successful future for my kids.

My sense of purpose comes from feeding my kids meat and potatoes, turning them into carnivores, and watching them pillage the homes or their enemies.

My sense of purpose isn’t tied to my role. As many have said, it’s tied to the intangibles. Family, health, community, ect. I still have financial, career, and educational goals, however.

The root of your question really underpins the need for veterans to decouple themselves from a military identity. For many, this transformation is easier said than done; however, once complete, opens the door to upward mobility in your life and career.

That is not to say forget the past experiences and critical lessons learned — it’s just a recognition that the military chapter of your life has passed, and you have bigger and brighter things ahead.

Very well said. That said, I have never learned to stomach the nonsense I have found in civilian life - like the importance people place on truly inconsequential things. I can’t say it has held me back - but it has been a personal obstacle I’ve had to contend with.

Hard to get that from a job outside of military. I like to think of my job as a combination of something that I am good at and pays a lot of money. Hobbies, volunteering, family, and friends is where I find purpose. I don’t try to put too much pressure on my career to create purpose and have found out the best way to be happy.

Yeah I need to stop trying to get the same juice out of my current role and find some other stuff to do with my time.

I am an adjunct professor at the graduate level. VERY satisfying. You actually prepare students for their future and get respected from your knowledge. Highly recommended. Plus you make a few dollars as well

I’ve presented a conferences so no issues getting up in front of class. You know curriculum / lessons in advance so you are able to prepare. Not hard at all IMO

Another idea is volunteering at your local VA because they are also looking for volunteers and also look at their help wanted sections because they might be looking for someone in your career.

like

I'm not making really good money, I am breaking even. But as my profile indicates I am a Tow Op and when I am not driving my wrecker I am a volunteer fire fighter. My enlistment was about service to my country and since I have been out the same thing I am still serving. I am not saying that you need to do the same, remain in your current career but you can volunteer for your volunteer fire company not necessarily in the position of Firefighter but there's other positions that help Firefighters in support roles or you can volunteer for a charity of your choice, like a thrift store or a soup kitchen or even a hospital. Many of those organizations are looking for volunteers so that you can continue with your career and still have the feeling of making a difference.

That's solid. Great idea!

This is Mir Mahedi Hasan from Bangladesh. I've been working as warehouse(inventory) deputy manager for 19 years in Fakir Group, Narayanganj, Bangladesh. I have all the capabilities to direcet the warehouse. I want to migrate to your country for developing my skills and serve better to your warehouse.

I used to try and derive my satisfaction and purpose from a job. I realized quickly that my job is just a job in that it is a means for me to live my life.

To me it sounds like your personal life may need a closer look. Are you doing things you enjoy in your day to day life? Are you learning new things? What do you dream of for your personal life? Your sense of purpose should NOT be related to your job

Scores consider the number of accounts that are paid as agreed. Your score was impacted because the number of these accounts is too low, or because you've missed payments recently on some of your accounts.
