Ok on red eyes and international flights - outside of that not ok.
Haven’t reclined on a non “sleeping” flight in ~20 years. Think about it - if you’re large or have long legs and some one drops there seat onto you how do you feel?
Maybe airlines can allocate x% of seats as non recliner. The seats exactly behind these will cost slightly more and the guys with long legs can happily grab them up at a small cost.
Nothing wrong with reclining. It exists as an option to utilize on a seat that a customer paid for. The only exception would be during meal/drinks service
Otherwise, those who have issues with it can suck it.
This again🙄
Seat reclining is in the same category as politics and religion; if you have an opposing view, the other person’s argument will seem illogical to you and will elicit contempt.
My viewpoint, coming from a 6’3” guy, is that the airlines knowingly create this “gray zone”, and technically sell the space to both passengers:
Passenger 1A: I paid for the right to recline
Passenger 2A: I paid for the leg room
Status quo and equilibrium exists only if no passengers recline. Next best option is to go for the half recline. Full recline is selfish, and pushing on the seat is immature.
😇💺😈
D1 neither is being short. I am very small and suffer from many disadvantages...not being able to see over some counters, never having a clear view at concerts / theatres unless the rake is steep, having to always sit at the middle seat in the back of the car, big people like ones you mention who sit next to me that automatically assume they can occupy my seat space. Not to mention that being tall is proven in Western society to help in job interviews, salary negotiations, etc. Of course there are advantages too (sometimes being able to buy kids versions of clothing, being slightly less uncomfortable in economy). People need to accept that they are advantaged and disadvantaged in different situations. I don't see why anyone should get special treatment on an airplane when flying is already a luxury and they can pay more for a seat.
People recline in front of me all the time and I don’t care. I think etiquette really should be the “slow” recline so you don’t cram your seat down on their laptop or potentially spill their drink. I’ve only cared when they reclined while still boarding the plane making it extremely difficult for the other passengers to get into their seats in my role. I always recline my seat if someone reclines in front of me, to give myself more room. To me reclining is normal on a plane and I care more about someone physically being in my seat space area instead.
As someone with long legs, I’d just like a warning beforehand, as opposed to just all of a sudden getting my knees banged by your reclining chair.
Why are we not talking about the punching?
Wrong firm, buddy, wrong firm. What can I say?...
(and yes this a joke again #spellitoutforward)
Every time I fly more than ~1h, I get awful back pain from sitting totally upright. So now I recline one every single flight. I paid for the seat, I get to use the “perks” that come with it.
I’m reclining, especially if it’s so I can open my laptop to do work. Sorry not sorry, I don’t give a sh*t about sacrificing someone’s comfort so I can get my work done and get to bed at a decent hour.
To me the bigger argument is if AA flight attendant handling of the situation appropriate? It is inline with their reputation but appropriate?
I love that Delta’s CEO never contemplated that the issue might come from the pitch offered in economy seats, rather than a problem of courtesy between travelers. I also love they we all internalized the story that it ought to be this way for airlines to be able to survive...
Hot take: If you want to recline, you should buy extra leg room seats so that it’s not impacting my in flight experience as a tall person and crushing my knees
Hotter take: If you’re taller but a seat with extra leg room instead of expecting people who have back problems to be in pain in a reclining seat they paid for.
I’m pretty sure we didn’t need a third significant post on this 😂
I think they should get rid of the recline option altogether, make all seat positions fixed.
Ok outside of landing, takeoff, beverage service and meal service.
