What is expected all in total comp for someone with 15-20 YOE? i.e. what would you all either make or expect to make at that time? Non-GC.

This is hard bc someone can range from 2nd in command with team under to only sharing responsibilities with other people with similar levels of experience or close. I don’t know what all in comp you mean but no RSUs and I make 250-300k as base + bonus (not tech or pharma). I know I can do better but I’m remote and while I am very busy during the day, I don’t really work nights and weekends. That said, I know I will need to leave to make more so I am slowly looking. I’m in a mid-high COL. very desirable suburb in major metro area.

Going to be a huge spread as noted. I’m at 19 years and am at 450 + ~10% bonus. Private co so no equity. VHCOL.

My wife and I are considering relocating to a new city. I’ve been working with a recruiter who (I thought) gave me a good lay of the land. Which firms to meet with re lateral opportunities, which to avoid, etc. I’ve since spoken with a friend who has connections at other firms that could be a better fit. Do I bring in my recruiter or reach out through connections? Is using a recruiter beneficial to me, or am I better off on my own? How does their fee play in to what I could get as a package?

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

Would love some advice / thoughts. I went straight from law school to a corporate legal department in house for an asset manager.
