What is Google like to work for, in house?

Considering a move from a V100

Macroscopically: going through a period of transition from startup-spirited innovator to a more conventional, consolidated corporation. Google’s primary revenue drivers (~80%) are still advertising based (AdSearch, AdSense,YouTube), while its attempted new products and services have not grown to meet expectations; e.g. Google Pixel holding 2% market share, Google Cloud holding 9%, and Google Stadia being cancelled this week after launching in November 2019.

Microscopically: Sundar Pichai put out a statement this week not to “equate fun with money,” and announced a series of quality-of-life reductions impacting employee discretionary activity funding, in-office products and services, and work-from-home access. The overall goal appears to be promoting a more conventional corporate culture and reducing Google’s employee-related expenses to be more in-line with traditional large-organization spending.

I don’t work in the legal division, but Google’s legal arms are growing in accordance to this transition from challenger, to leader, to incumbent in online advertising services.

Thanks that’s very insightful

What role/dept?

Great! It’s a tight-knit team with a lot of longevity. Busy, but respectful of time with good WLB. Interesting work. Same critique that most of Google gets that it’s hard to promote quickly, but most people don’t care too much about that
