Senior director = director within AP. I believe there were some senior directors from an acquisition in Europe and they kept their titles.
To answer your question, director is a super wide range at AP. However, 90% of the “senior” directors at AP would be Principal or Partner equivalent at BCG (where I came from previously). Managing director at AP is the equivalent of senior partner.

How many levels away from partner/MD is senior director? Or how many years to partner /MD?
Rising Star
I didn’t think this title existed... it would be their equivalent of a non equity partner?
One level before MD is Director at AP. At Bain, Kearney and McKinsey that is called Associate Partner. Not sure on the rest.
It’s called Principal at all the other firms
Senior director in industry can be 2-3 years out of business school. Not sure what you are comparing.
