Anyone deal with this before: I inherited a severely under developed team including a sr analyst who clearly was doing the bare minimum, if that. Over the last 6 months I have had to coach him and correct simple mistakes in his work and recently it got so bad that I told him he would receive a low rating in his evaluation. Anyone here in partnerships management or business development or strategic alliances development? I’m in a BizOps role today and have been trying to break into this space without much luck. Hiring managers / recruiters always say the same thing when they do give feedback - that they’re looking for someone that has experience in the same role. What’s the best way to break in? It’s not like there are business development classes like there are coding classes where I can learn the job.

How much of a pay cut are you willing to take to (hopefully) re-find purpose in your job?

My Context: work in tech, company has HQ in the Bay but I live in Canada. Single, no kids, 1 mortgage, no debts.

TC: ~200k USD (60% base / 40% equity). I put very low effort, completely disengaged and unmotivated, with anxiety building up. Don’t like the company, but very few companies can match where I live

Any advise on best course of action for case in which manager intentionally blocks promo opportunity (on different team) so they can keep you in role. And then claim that you are not ready for promo (after they initially were all about you being ready)?

Resigned from my job for blatant racism last week. Been a contingent worker for 6 months. The manager that recruited me unfortunately left after a couple weeks and went to another company. She however recommended me for the permanent opportunity to higher management. The acting manager came in, permanent role was posted, I applied, interviewed……manager told me they chose someone else external for the role. I could sense the manager had no intentions to hire me permanently

Is it possible to jump from implementation manager to product manager, and if so, what should I do to prep for the jump? Is it easier between companies or within? And (maybe I’m pushing my luck.. lol) but what’s the difference in salary progression between the 2 paths?

Once you get into a FAANG company, is it better to stay where you are or move around? I’m a dissatisfied with my current job but I have vesting stocks, work 9-5, and people to know and respect me. I am the sole provider for my family and value quality of life and stability. I have some interview requests from other FAANG companies that I know pay more but I worry about starting over. Anyone switch companies and either regret it or are glad they did?

I feel burnt out by how ruthless the tech industry in US is, but I also know I’m making much more money than people outside of tech or consulting.

How do you adjust your WLB?
I’m so burnt out that I wish I could yell at people who were not kind or supportive to me, but those people often unfortunately were in position of power.
I don’t like unkindness, but my anger is just very bottled up…
