As long as AI and automation remain in the forefront tech jobs will continue to plummet. I read somewhere that big tech has spent a combined 3/4 trillion dollars on AI infrastructure but they're not seeing anywhere near that in profits. If this trend continues there will be a huge tech crash, similar to the dotcom bust. After that maybe tech will re-build itself and jobs will start to grow again.
Part of me thinks there will be a government bailout at some point because the authoritarian state desperately wants AI-powered mass surveillance, in the name of "national security" of course.
AI spending needs to come down. I am hopeful that there will be the one big push to get data centers built, amd then big tech will shift back towards.investing in people to run and grow it's capabilities.
Worst-case scenario is that we see a AI become a permanent replacement for a significant segment of tech employees, in which case the number of jobs won't come back up, and growth will need to push in a different direction.
