What if you just coast? Give me a second to explain.
You probably worked 60-80 hours a week to get where you are now for 40 hour a week pay. That means you were doing the work of 2-5 different people to get ahead.
What if you took this time to do the work of 1 person for this period of time? What does that look like as a director? Here are some examples:
- schedule some time to strategize what your team needs, the gap between today and that future state
- schedule time with your direct reports to see what they might like to see in the department or initiates that might benefit the company
- take a good vacation like 2-3 week vacation and go somewhere. Shake up the routine.
- you sound like you are in the post sport season lull. Life will ebb and flow. And your body does need to recover from that.
- Try bungee jumping or go cart races or learn something active like horseback riding or surfing or scuba diving.
As much as a team needs a driver and someone to inspire them to hit goals, your team also needs to experience celebrating your successes, supporting the ebb and flow of the business, and be trusted to be able to do their jobs.
Sometimes we just hit a season in our lives where it’s time to move forward with another challenge. By your own admission you are success and hardworking and your job is under control. Maybe you need to get some support formal or informal to help you to decide what the true underlying cause for these feelings are. Is it just lack of inspiration or maybe you need to take more time to find joy and focus in your outside world with friends and family or check that you’re not actually burned out in some way.
Hi!
Firstly, well done on all your achievements so far :)
Here’re a few things I´d suggest:
- answer “what now?” question. If you aren’t sure about what you <do> want, start by what you <dont> want;
- what makes you feel uninspired? Try to be as specific as possible. What used to inspire you & why?
- when you say that you have a lot to learn - what would you like to learn next? Why is that important?
I would start by answering these questions. It will bring some more clarity.
Also, it is totally normal to feel stuck at some point in our career. It happens to everyone. Be kind & loving to yourself, always :)
Wish you all the best!
Btw, if you’d like to chat further, feel free to message me/connect on LI. Happy to learn more about your situation and offer some additional insights.
