What should I expect as a non-equity partner at an insurance defense firm? About to be offered this and have no clue what it could possibly entail. I don’t have a book of business.

Congrats! Usually just a raise and title change. Maybe you’ll be a K1 instead of a W2 (then the raise is probably negated by the taxes). Maybe you’ll get a lower hourly requirement but probably not. If you develop a book, maybe you’ll get a piece of the profits but that’s kind of rare (and then you’ll probably be talking equity).

The big advantage is that once you’ve got the title you’ll keep it as you lateral. It’s a weird but huge stepping stone in the ID world.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

I’ve been doing ID for about 2 years now. Mostly slip and fall and WC work. Long-term, I want to move out of ID. I’m currently interviewing at a firm that does ID, but mostly does insurance coverage opinions. They also do some more complex ID, such as L&E.

With the ultimate goal of moving completely out of ID, would this be seen as a step up? I appreciate any and all feedback. TIA

Hi folks,
What do you show as investment proof if investment is to be done at a future date? I have a life insurance whose premium is due in March. What can I submit now as proof for this declaration?

Just how bad would it be to quit without a two week notice? I’ve been bait & switched into a horrible role, overworked to the point of having medical problems, and no amount of diplomatic talks with my manager has improved the day to day. My mental health and my personal relationships have been on a steady decline.

I don’t have another job lined up yet. But I’m danger close to quitting and taking my chances with freelance. Could it be worth it?

Can somebody explain to me how the system works between payer (insurance) and therapists? I’m currently looking for a therapist with a specific focus due to a traumatic event and am only finding counselors that do not work with insurance and charge average $ 150/hour. Difference in working in house for an insurance company vs for a firm?

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
