Personally if someone can’t give me an actual time when work will arrive while I’m waiting, yet I’m expected to be at the ready when work is ready for me, I bill for all of that time. If they expect me to be on-call and I can’t go live my life while there’s no work, then they have to pay for that time. I also note this practice (professionally of course) to any client I’m working with and so far no one has complained

In an ideal world: yes. But the guy I’m working for is very unprofessional, unstable and anxious. There is nothing I can do. I think he thinks of me as a pair of hands that should be ready when he needs. The gig is over. I knew someone here would say to bill for the whole time. I like the other response (half days). I’m going w that. And if they give me shit, I will use some of your words. Thx.
We pay firemen for sitting around the fire station playing monopoly, not just when there’s a fire. I would charge for those two days. Doesn’t matter if you were sitting around looking at cat videos while you waited for feedback or checking for emails. They pay you for your time, not per pixels pushed. If you used your time, then they gotta pay for it.
You charge for every minute you are available to work for them. That's the law.
Here's what the Dept of Labor's own website says:
"Time which an employee is required to be at work or allowed to work for his or her employer is hours worked. A person hired to do nothing or to do nothing but wait for something to do or something to happen is still working. The Supreme Court has stated that employees subject to the FLSA must be paid for all the time spent in "physical or mental exertion (whether burdensome or not) controlled or required by the employer and pursued necessarily and primarily for the benefit of the employer of his business."

Thank you for this! What I should have said, “What hours would you like me to be available at my laptop?” What I said was, “I will check my DMs at x’oclock. For additional needs.” Gig was a pitch so all was up in he air. Also, I am a schmuck.
I’d charge 1/2 days
They pay for your time. You're booked and waiting, you're getting paid. Up to them to get their shizer together.
