Bain & Company I’m a PhD student looking to start in consulting and am looking to connect with other PhD/ADP consultants that went into consulting to learn more about the experience and how to prep for case interviews coming from a non-business background. Especially looking for advice on McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, and Bain & Company

I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Also if I see a role which is very much aligned with my career plans but I have not finished an year with the organization should I just carry on or apply and try my luck?
So just to add a bit more details I work in IT Consultancy. I did apply for a role change in my current but they didn’t give me the promotion. It wasn’t that they denied it but it got postponed. And to compensate they reevaluate my salary. Now some of the people who are on a higher grade are quite a bit lower On the salary than me. I have no clue if that’s a good thing or not and since I didn’t have a choice I took the compensation.
For my initial question I have given 3 interviews and in each they approached me and still asked the question. It’s very hard to answer. I want to say we are sitting here cause of you but of course it’s not a good answer so not sure what to do. I keep giving a random answer that comes to mind.
It's hard to answer your question because I'm not in your situation. I've hired people before and three moves in one year is a big red flag. I think the question is valid. Just because someone approaches you for a role doesn't mean you have to say yes. It just means their algorithm thinks you're a good fit for an open role. I think they're asking why you're agreeing to the interview. Based on the information you've provided, I don't really get the sense that you know why you're interviewing either. Might be worth it to sit down and figure out what your long term plan is and how this new role could help you.
