Practicing 13 years, been in the Plaintiff side for 3 yrs. salary is $115,000 and commission is a sliding scale based on fees collected each month. Somewhere between 7% and 12%; 25% for any cases that I personally bring in. I’m at a mid-sized firm in Central Florida.
2020 gross commissions added up to around $80,000. It was a pretty good year for me, I admit. So far this year my commissions have been an average of about $5,000/month. I do have staff that I also give discretionary bonuses as well.
Salary: 60
Commission: Not set, but usually get a bonus at least once a year depending on how the firm is doing (small firm); 1/3 of the firm’s fee for cases I personally bring in
5.5 years (2015 law grad)
Yeah, we are a very small firm (4 attorneys) with a very niche PI focus. But I’m definitely looking around for something better paying, just not a lot of plaintiff PI jobs out there right now (that I’ve been able to find).
2019 grad. Salary: $95k. Annual bonus: $10k. Also get 1/3 of origination, but haven’t had any luck on that front yet
Atlanta, 5 attorney firm
Rising Star
2018 grad here. Salary: 70,000. I get 1/3 of the fee only for cases that I bring in. I haven’t yet settled any of the cases I have brought in so far, so gross is about 72,000 with the bonus.
Second year, Salary 65k, Bonus is usually 5% of salary, commission is 40% of cases I bring in, which will be about 8k this year, and hopefully 100-200k in 2-3 years
First year, 2020 grad (took the online October bar exam) at a very small plaintiffs firm
Salary: $45k
Commission: 1/3 of anything I settle, 1/2 of anything I bring in, but I don’t get this until my total settlements bring the firm $100k
I’m a little worried about the pay, but being a first year in the pandemic made it difficult to be picky. I do have a really good quality of life and ample time off, and they cover all of my health insurance. I guess I’ll see what everything ends up totaling at the end of the year.
Graduated 2010. In SF. Making about 180K. No commission.
