I hope we all look back at some point in the future at the dollar chasers out there and address that they (we) were part of the problem... sure this inequity bubble has a lot of facets but people just looking for the next branch that pays them more has to be part of the equation. Stop asking what max comp is and start asking what’s the fair wage and how do you and the organization give back to the community and the global ecosystem. Ask how google is helping with the homelessness crisis (they’re actually doing a lot) and start focusing on the bigger issues in this world. Welp. Gonna get down from my soapbox now. Enjoy your lunch break.
Maxing out compensation enables you to provide greater stability for your family, potentially give more back to charity, invest in local economies, etc. how could this possibly be “part of the problem”?
The fact that ANYONE with the job title of “Consultant” would wax that poetic might be the richest thing you will ever read on this app. OP is a software engineer who presumably has sought-after, hard skills that can actually produce something that does everything and more in C1’s post. A run of the mill consultant making $150k and charging $400/hr selling suspect “value-add” services is going to be part of the problem and not the solution about 9 times out of 10.
