As long as you accept that your career/life might not turn out exactly like you planned, you’ll be happy and fulfilled with your career. It’s about managing expectations.
What ever decision you make will be the right decision for you.
Also, everything is optional. Yes there may be consequences, but still: everything is optional.

I was thinking about leaving private practice which I was insanely passionate about but it was burning me out. I had lunch with a mentor and he said this, and he was exactly right. I didn’t need to ‘chase my passion,’ I needed stability and to find joy in a job well done even if it wasn’t exciting so I could survive long-term. His advice saved my marriage and probably my life. And it turns out that I found plenty of enjoyment and excitement in my new role, just a different kind.
It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice
An attorney once told me, “Don’t take mistreatment or verbal abuse even if the pay is great. If someone has the need to treat you ill, it says a lot about them but if you stay and take it, it says a lot about you too.”
