What makes you a good lawyer? This is a question on a self-evaluation form we were handed today. It got me thinking, how would you guys answer this question?

Without trying to brag, I do everything at work outside the actual practice of law well. Specifically, I’m good at communicating with and managing expectations of with shareholders. I can’t do this without having a good handle on my caseload and my week-to-week on a moments notice, but so much of the practice of law, at least as an associate, is just being able to communicate clearly with the people assigning you work.

Ditto Attorney 1. Especially as a junior associate, the partners and senior associates I work for value my responsiveness and the way I take ownership of case deadlines. Keeping the partner on track and offering your assistance on matters goes a long way.

Client management. Responsiveness. Meeting firm requirements.

These! And good communication. I know we have our fair share of rude clients. We need to be patient. It's essential in our work.

I don't want to give up equity in the firm for several reasons but I do need to incentivize my team.

I’m working at an insurance defense firm, trying to target my practice to L&E. I’m overworked and underpaid, but gaining valuable experience I hope to pivot toward an eventual in-house counsel position. I recently was offered an opportunity to lateral to a national firm for a significant pay increase (150% salary increase, much better benefits, hybrid WFH options). Problem-I would be shifting gears to Toxic Tort. I’m torn between my passion and the money. I’m a second year associate. WWYD?

Recently received an offer from Ogletree to do only class action work. It'll be a big change for me, I'll be starting as a fourth year. Double my current salary, etc.

What will this be like? It's more of a niche, but lucrative, part of their practice, right? Will I really get good WLB like they claim? I have a nice 40 hour a week job right now, no billables.
