Those Amex points are such a pain to get good value out of 😪
Depends on what you’re trying to do.. most would say transferring to an airline partner. A lot of bloggers will get “extreme” value by transferring to a ME3 and fly one of their extreme first classes but who wants to hangout in the ME??
C1 Dubai is dope, idk what you’re talking about
If you don't want to use them on travel, the next best option is cashing them out with the Schwab Amex Plat. You get $. 0125/MR.
Never redeem for giftcards, merchandise, statement credits, or Amazon. (Unless they're running the "get 20% off on Amazon by using MRs" - and then just use 1 MR on Amazon to trigger the offer.)
I only had like 10k points and recently bought a house... Home Depot Gift Card has a decent exchange rate.
I can tell you that Gift cards aren't the best use. MR is a valuable currency and Converting to airline/hotel points and you can get 2.0-3.0 cents value per point. For e.g. using ANA points for a travel to Jap can be a valuable redemption. There are some website that will tell you best redemptions.
A pretty good option is also transferring to Air France/KLM for their discounted award tickets (released monthly with different eligible cities)
Not sure if this is efficient - but I converted to the highest dollar value (Nike) and plan to resell on a gift card website taking a few percent hit (5-6%).
AM, because gift cards are almost always $.01 or less/MR. Transferring to a travel partner is $.02-.03+.
If you're going to buy something from a merchant, use your card or go buy discount giftcards online. Save your MR for travel transfers. If you'll never go on a vacation and want cash, get the Schwab Plat and cash them out.
C1 has no clue what he/she is talking about... don’t be a judgemental douchebag
Transfer to an airline partner. You can sometimes do ok with B6 but going BA and booking AA flights often works too
And transfer 1:1 to Air Canada/Aeroplan for very generous routing rules. You can fly Star Alliance airlines from Canada/US to Europe for 60,000 points RT, and if you want, for the same price can also include 2 additional stops (in addition to your destination) or 1 additional stop and an open jaw. Can easily get a lot of value out of that
C1, what does ME mean?
OP, ME = Middle East
Looks like airline/hotel transfer is the best
Why is everyone saying no to gift cards? There are a few gift cards with the best exchange value of all and if you plan on shopping from there why not transfer?
P1, I suspect that upwards of 95% of Amex points are redeemed at a value of 1 cent or less though
Which cards?
