What’s the best way to handle the sponsorship conversation so it doesn't overshadow my actual legal qualifications? I just finished my LLM at a top US school to qualify for the New York Bar. I’ve found that many firms love my international background but are hesitant to hire me because they don't want to deal with visa sponsorship. I’m currently on my OPT, so I have a year of work authorization, but the long-term question always shuts things down.

You could say that you will handle all the paperwork and potentially deduct the visa application fees from your salary. For example if the salary is normally $50k, then you can negotiate for $45k.

The current tend is not very friendly to international job seekers. But you should say to the firm that you are happy to work for the opt term and handle the paperwork work for future

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.
