I would not raise it in negotiations but I would ask about all benefits provided including family leave etx.
It’s too risky to announce you’ll likely be out within a year for a baby... and it could take a beat longer to get prego so don’t raise it too soon.
(But I did find out I was pregnant while interviewing and disclosed when I got the offer. They gave me full benefits without a blink of an eye and felt thankful I told them... but only did bc I was pregnant).
I mean honestly, this should not even be a negotiation. It cannot be the expectation that mat leave is something only good negotiators get. It has to be part of their policies.
Also, life is weird. You might try to get pregnant and not be able to. Or it takes longer than you think. Don’t make part of your negotiated compensation be tied to your complicated human body. Instead, only consider employers who have humane parental benefits.
After you have offer ask for the one year to be waived. Don’t make excuses about it, just say something like you “don’t have plans but don’t want to get caught in a bind either."
