If you haven't given your current salary to the recruiter, I recommend you try to avoid doing so for as long as possible. The more important number is what you'd like to be making and whether or not the company can/would match that number to secure your hire.
Even if they can't match that salary, you can back down and you'll have lost nothing.
Some companies might be open to talking through like a "we can't get you that now but we can agree to an X% raise at X months to get you to Y?"
