I’ve been top tier at both. Marriott treats you better
Marriott as the properties are slightly better and better higher end redemption options.
That being said the program went seriously downhill post acquisition. So not much different.
I would personally pick the nicer property in the locations you are going to stay.
Alternatively you can go for the chain with better promotion which currently (and typically) is Hilton
Remember Hilton's points are worth less when comparing to Marriott.
Good thing since Marriot-SPG merger is that there is a Marriot property nearly everywhere. Marriott doesn't always have breakfast though depending on brand and status.
It’s true that Hilton points are less worth compared to Marriott points.
But with Hilton promotions through the year ( double points per stay etc) coupled with milestone bonuses - one earns more points per stay than Marriott - giving almost similar return on $ spent
Moroever it’s easy to earn diamond status at Hilton and with rollover nights it gives jumpstart for next year.
In 2019 I stayed 105 nights at Hilton. This year I’m just 15 nights away from diamond status for 2021 due to rollover nights
So think about that aspect as well
Me personally, I’ve never been impressed at a Hilton. Even Conrads. Not that I’m often impressed by Marriott properties, but I’ve *not once* been impressed at a Hilton.
Just stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in Shanghai and that shit was peng. I’ve also never been particularly impressed with Marriotts (one Design Hôtel was good). I particularly find the mid level ones to be quite run down...
No love for Hyatt?
