Charisma and courage in front of clients and taste and empathy in front of creatives. Sorry, couldn’t choose one because no skill is useful in isolation.
Agree with some version of this. They are essentially the diplomat between client and creative. They need both to feel understood.
A backbone.
Calm under pressure.
Understand how to represent the agency to the client and not the client to the agency.
Bingo. Need to remember which company their paycheck comes from.

Sell the work. Protect the work. Persuade. De-escalate concerns, in order to support the creative work (talk clients off the edge). Reiterate why the work solves their problems.
Be willing to ask the client questions and push back, respectfully, but also forcefully when best for the work. Clients respect it and the work is better for it.
Creative and Production understanding and support. Sell the work and the process to getting it done.
Asking good questions when lesser account people might dictate changes.
Being married to the client
