I had a very intelligent partner make about three fifty.

I don’t think alcoholism and terrible home life are ‘usual’ by any stretch of the imagination that’s just what happens when you neglect your personal life.
$5M. They seemed fine.
I had a rockstar partner tell me a story he was using to illustrate how great an airline’s customer service was. He said he switched to this carrier because some employees in their lounge let him use the WiFi to FaceTime his daughter to help her with math homework on a Friday night. He was now the highest tier with that carrier. He saw it as endearing, I saw it as fucking terrifying.
Rising Star
Highest I ever heard of for a normal partner was around $10m (not at Mck).
Some consultants have made much more - usually founders of firms - Jay Alix is a billionaire, for example.

My mentor at ACN made about $40M at the IPO and a decade later jumped in front of a commuter train. Bezos has more money than he can ever spend and cheated on and left his wife. You never know what goes on inside someone else’s home.
$3-4M very senior McKinsey Partner in one of big developing markets.
Heard of a client serving account partner where part of his salary was sales based making $2M a year
Partners managing firm executive roles (e.g., CFO) can make 5-10 easily

Personally, a senior principal at Deloitte who was high up the food chain in the federal health practice. Pretty sure he's retired now (this was 5+ years ago), but per a SM who'd worked for him for several years, the guy was pulling in about $2.5M.
On the salaried director side, I worked with one pulling in ~$600k base, no idea about bonus, also 5+ years ago on the federal side.
Guy who ran McK’s oil and gas practice in Norway was routinely making 7-10m+ a year.
I don’t have any good stories to share about TOP numbers, but when I had a comp conversation recently my talent group leader told me the average partner at Deloitte made $800-900k. Not sure if that’s a median or mean, so tough to tell how highly impacted by high numbers at the top.
