Hi Google - I am requesting guidance!
I am prepping for my interview specifically GCA and open ended questions. I struggle to tell if the outcome should be talking through your process/steps (maybe for a question like - how would you go about determining program complexity) vs a specific solution such as create x new product, for x market by x date based on my assumptions. Is the desired outcome something I can clarify with the interviewer?
Reminds me of Amber Heard

I’m surprised how quickly firms are bowing to this
Me too.
1) lost the election
2) married to a person who lost to Trump of all the people
3) his firm settled with Trump
I think Doug is contemplating the taste of a shotgun’s barrel right now.
Yeah it’s not a shining moment for him. I was being facetious in asking. But I’m interested in how people are feeling about Willkie’s choice.

It’s pretty simple. Look at the firms that settled and look at the firms that didn’t. The ones that did are NY firms with strong transactional practices. The ones that didn’t are more litigation heavy. The transactional lawyers are scared that the Trump gov’t regulators will kill their deals and their clients will leave.
Of course, law firms are in the business of making money, pretty simple. Banks and the tech companies have also completely changed their tune on DEI etc. now that Trump is in, because they move in whatever direction the wind is blowing at the time so they make money and create shareholder value. If one wants to be morally superior, go work somewhere else.

What about Doug Emhoff screams backbone?
Uhh, really?
Let’s not forget the time we are in right now in terms of the markets. A lot of these firms have taken on sizeable risk ($$$) and are desperate for deals. PW in its race to catch up with Kirkland. Skadden with news that each practice leader was being asked to make their business case. Everyone was hoping for this gangbuster deal year, but so far, just the continuation of whimpers since 2022. DJTs assault is at a time when a lot of these firms are very vulnerable as it is. Doesn’t take much to rattle them.

I love all the people who are like “get work done” and it’s a “business”. You’re just as short sighted as clients who flee firms for this crap. The fact that you cannot see this as a seismic shift on political control means you know nothing of history. Let’s all hope this is a blip, but when you realize there is no lawyer class in autocratic leaning societies, don’t say you weren’t warned. Sometimes you have fight to preserve what you have and your future, this would be the time. Companies hire lawyers for all sorts of reasons, this short term play and bending the knee is stupid imo. Folks have totally lost sense of reality, that’s what scares me.

P1 hear you too and the tension they face is awful - I don’t want to belittle it, I just am passionate about what is happening systemically. But there is a perspective being lost here too; both systemically and short term. The biggest clients don’t care about the law firms, they are putting pressure on the law firms for their own business reasons. And here in lies the rub: they now can’t trust the same law firm to fight the govt when it counts. What’s happening is perverse. But I suspect things will not magically improve for those who rushed to a deal even if they think they did it for the right reason. I hope I’m just being alarmist, trust I do.
The heightened expectations for Doug are so odd to me. Even if he was a politician himself, do you guys really think they're all about principle? Every one of these firms has partners and/or "of counsel" or "special advisors" that are retired pols of both parties and are part of the"government affairs" groups. You think they're resigning in protest?
And Doug isn't even a politician himself. He's just married to one. He's a generic Dem lawyer, just like 90% of partners.
OK. And yet, she's still there.

I think he will leave. I wouldn't stay.
Any Willkie associates here?
