What's working out better for you when you make calls to prospects? Having a catchy opener or just keeping it straightforward and saying it's a sales call, and asking them if they want to continue or hang up? My managers are constantly asking us to be 'concise and natural', but what that leads to is almost always a rejection. I don't know if being pushy is the way to go or not. Thoughts?

A catchy opener can grab attention and spark curiosity, but if it feels forced or insincere, prospects might shut down quickly. Being concise and natural is good advice, but it shouldn't come at the cost of sounding robotic or rushed. Sometimes, a simple, honest approach, briefly introducing yourself and asking if they have a moment, can open the door better than trying to be clever. It’s definitely a fine line between persistence and pushiness.

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…
