I ended up spending more than expected but am reselling it now.
I had the same issue with my wedding dress, ended up spending $1500 all in. Remember to add in alterations cost if needed, I was shocked by how much those were $500 for minimal adjustments
I’m actually in the same boat! I’m going for dress fittings in the next 2 weeks and the dresses I’m interested in range from $1k to $2.5k before alts. One of my ideas is after the wedding, get it altered again into maybe a tea length dress to use for future special occasions with the hubby
Pro
will that ruin your budget otherwise or put you in a bad financial spot? if no i’d go for it. i know it’s a good chunk more but feeling confident and beautiful the day of your wedding is priceless and will show in your photos
After alterations it was $1500. $1099 for dress at bhldn by anthro. My goal was to stay under 2k although Ugg my dream dress was over 8k……lolol. I could never justify that for a one use dress
Don't forget to look at Poshmark and still white for new with tag dresses. I found mine brand new 40% off retail!
My goal is <$500
Mine is was 1800 when my budget was 1500 and I forgot about alterations and sales tax 🥲
I am doing an adventure elopement where we will be hiking prior to a small ceremony, so I’m looking at lulus and low cost dresses that can get dirty. Rental and resale don’t seem likely options. Give me your affordable recommendations!
JJ’s House. Order a dress you are interested in in a regular size. See if you like the style. Then return it and reorder it using your measurements. It will fit perfectly and still be affordable. I got two dresses in custom size for $530 combined.
I found my dress on a rack sale for $1! Since it was so cheap I got a reception dress too that I loved! All in on both after alterations was a little under $400.
Try to find it via secondhand sources like StillWhite!
You could also buy it new and sell it after your wedding to make up some of the cost difference.
The same thing happened to me. I went with two dresses (a long one for the ceremony and a short one for the reception) that were combined $530 instead of one long one I loved for $1200. I’m so glad I made that decision. The dresses I went with really grew on me and I looked great in them for pictures. I would have felt sick due to the cost of the $1200 dress and not enjoyed myself. Don’t get tricked by the wedding industrial complex! It’s just an article of clothing!
I ordered my dresses from JJ’s House and they do custom sizing, so I didn’t have to do any alterations. I highly recommend them!
Mine was close to 4k with alterations. Was also charged 20% more as I am "plus sized."
