It's usually like they found your name (along with 50 others) and ran the list by the firm who said, "Sure, reach out." You could always ask if it's a retained search. And at least do the smell test. If the recruiter has only been at it for six months, it's bulls#!t

I assume so. Unless they really follow up - anyone actively trying to recruit you is going to do more than send one email.

Usually bs but it's pretty easy to tell. You can just ask who specifically asked them to reach out and why you were on the list. If they can't tell you it's bs, but if they lie about it they'll be found out real quick when you bring it up in an interview. Another almost foolproof tell is if they can guarantee you an interview without a resume. If they need your resume right away it's likely bs. Sometimes certain firms will need to confirm someone meets GPA cutoff. There are some exceptions to these, but it usually cuts thru the noise. While most of these are bs you really want to pursue these when they're real since it gives you lots of bargaining power, so it's usually worthwhile to at least find out if it's true. I'm working on a targeted search right now that qualifies along these lines, so I can tell you it's definitely something that happens often.

Why would they ask a recruiter to contact you when they could reach out directly and save the recruiter fee? Easy to just invite the individual out to coffee or drinks.

At lower end firms, you’re correct. But the V10 don’t care about the recruiting fee - small price to pay to not have the appearance of poaching directly from their colleagues.

Half of the partner searches I do have a target list that is handed to me. For associates, I’ll get 2-3 names. I’ll then compile a list of other targets. Those names are cross-referenced with the group to see if any are known (positively or negatively) to the group. Anyone that is a 👍, I then Target as well with the messaging that I was asked to reach out.

I had cleared all the rounds in S&P and had salary discussion 1.5 month back. The HR is always saying the management is on leave and will soon get the approval and release offer. Hi guys I work in One of GCP partnered org. My role sr SQL developer I resigned the current job GOT ROLE in FICO child org as a solution integration consultant role -(AWS,PENTAHO ,SQL we will be using ) -offered CTC 25 fixed + 1L JB + 2.5 BONUS + 0.5 L WFH SETUP = total 29LPA if everything will go smoothly ( bonus vary with comp growth it can be between 1.8L to 2.5l .so final CTC will get down to 28LPA as well - Bangalore but WFH ).Current org retain with 25L +2 LP VARIABLE HYDERABAD COMPANY

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school
