When and how do you anticipate the consulting industry to be supplanted by AI?

This assumes AI can replace judgment, trust, and politics- the parts of consulting clients actually pay for. Automating analysis is easy; automating boardroom dynamics isn’t.

That is until a BoD replaces certain C-suite directs with AI and falls into the “It’s not perfect but it’s 5% the cost. It will be fine. AI the whole department!” trap.

When supply chains are 100% demand side, anti trust is not enforced. Water, food, housing and that's all the population can afford. No need to consult in these cases.

It’s already supplementing. I don’t need as many lower staff to do certain tasks and work. Drastically increased value of mid tier

It’s the ozempic of Hollywood
Every 3-5 years they throw a tantrum around a tech
In 2018-19 it was machine learning
They wanted everyone to know machine learning
When people with stats knowledge applied they wanted everyone to have key machine learning knowledge
Then data science but when people with machine learning experience or knowledge applied they rejected saying data science is the core
Now AI when people with either or both of the above apply they throw the keyword AI
It’s just a trend

I think at the lower levels, in the next 2 - 3 years in certain parts of the industry. I’m in Tech M&A and I am already seeing from friends attempts at an AI Analyst. I don’t think it replaces people and honestly think for the firms that get it right, will really expand operational capacity. A UI over a model of choice can intake financials, arch diagrams, CIMs, whatever. Will take this and make a full analysis based on the firms specialty. Experts and project leaders sell this capability and can supplement analysis with politics to get deals done more effectively. Same with SPAs/TSAs/Disclosure Agreements. I really do see it as more of an accelerator than a detriment to growth. The losers will be firms that don’t adapt and invest in these tools. Longer term, it will probably transition more to these tools just being sold into market. Services revenue shrinks and grows more into a SaaS / Usage model with services sold to supplement

Who is going to tell the AI what to do? If you are someone who truly cares about your business, I’d like to think (at least for a while) you’d have to teach it the goals of the business, what metrics to meet, strategy, and deciding when to pivot and what to pay attention to. And maybe this is naive, but what about gut instinct? Can that be taught?

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out

One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?

I am currently working mostly in Data Analytics, but I want to transition into Data Engineering. I've applied to a couple Data engineer positions but it seems I don't have the qualifications for them. Should I maybe look for Jr. Data Engineer positions to get experience and try to move up from there? If so anybody know of any Jr. Data Engineer positions available?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

Feeling really torn between fed loans and private loans for my MBA. Rates are better (and no origination fee) with private and very likely won’t take advantage of the protections offered with fed loans— but after seeing how uncertain the world can be with COVID/financial crisis, it does make me take pause. Should I just do federal and then refinance after working for a bit post-grad when I’m feeling more stable/secure in my finances/career?

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
