For those of you who build websites, how do you display your built sites on your portfolio site? Do you have a page where you mock up the site or do you do a direct link? I currently have both. I’m just trying to figure out the best way for me. Here is my site for reference. The links for the sites are in the menu and below in the gallery. Sarahbellestudios.com

I just got rejected pretty deep in an interview process for this reason lol. “Your work was great but the type of environment you work in and the kind of work you do currently doesn’t match the way we work. Some of our other candidates are a little more in line with how we do things”
Not sure if there’s anything I can do about it, but I sympathize with more junior folks who wont even get looked at because of mindsets like this.
Unless it's a special case, I think it best to just submit the core portfolio. I'm sure there are hiring managers with tunnel vision who may not be able to assess things that don't directly relate to their needs. I also assume some hiring managers reject people and come up with an excuse that seems to invoke that attitude. When you're told your work isn't specifically what they're looking for, that may just be an awkwardly polite way of writing a rejection.
I don’t care any more. Wether I tailor my portfolio or send them a basic one I get the same email two days later saying “after careful consideration we’ve decided not to go forward with the hiring process”
I just recently started tailoring my portfolio. Still waiting to see if it gives better results. You have to pull out all the stops to even have a hope of getting a call, it feels like.
