It’s probably better to transfer the points to United. United points can be worth 2 cents apiece whereas chase points are worth 1.25-1.5. Definitely check the price in points on United to see if there’s a difference.
If I book through Chase, Can I add my Hilton honors number? Not so much to get Hilton points, but so it’ll show up on my account as an upcoming stay.
Not sure if you can put your UA number into the chase portal, but you *can* tag the flight to your FF # from the UA site after its ticketed. This will allow you to accrue UA points/miles/segments as normal.
The main benefit of booking through chase is that award tickets aren’t eligible for upgrades unless you have the United credit card. Assuming you don’t have the UA card, booking through the Chase portal will reflect to UA as a cash purchase, and you’ll be eligible for a CPU.
You can add the UA member ID. I just did it this morning and I can see the flight info from my UA app.
Check the pricing if redeeming with United miles vs Chase points. Also note you’ll earn United miles for the flights, and credit towards elite status, if you redeem Chase points but not United miles. And for domestic flights, if you don’t have a United credit card, you’re not eligible for first class upgrades on award tickets (those booked with United miles). All that said, particularly for international premium cabin redemptions, or for transfers to Hyatt, you can often get a much higher value per point transferring to partner program than redeeming on the Chase portal.
It’s different between airfare and hotel.
United - yes, you can - I’ve done this many times. Chase will ask you to input freq flyer number. United treats it no different than any other ticket bought in that fare class. Exception might be if you try to change or get a refund. You’ll also get rewards points / benefits.
Hilton, on the other hand, will treat it like an Expedia reservation, so you will not get credit for the stay, it will not link with your HH#. If you have status and ask nicely, they may still give you an upgrade or other status perks when you check in.
