One of the most important things you can do when negotiating a raise is to ask at the right time. It's great you have your annual review coming up as that provides the perfect opportunity to do so. Start building a case for yourself. Consider the market value for your position in your area, outline a list of your achievements in this last year, and determine your target rate range. Then take some time to practice the conversation with a friend or family member to get comfortable before sitting with your boss. Good luck!
Yup, to clarify my review will be towards Aug which marks my 1 year. I wanted to start preparing for it now. If all goes well HR told me I may be eligible for a promotion in Nov
Look at the JD for the role ABOVE you. Build a case based on your achievements in the past year that ladders back to specific components of that JD. Include actual metrics/specificities wherever possible eg: CTR was 10% above benchmark, Webbys Awards finalist, etc. Also collect written positive feedback you’ve received (and create a paper trail for verbal positive feedback - put it in writing eg: “Hi NAME, It was so encouraging to hear your feedback that the deck I presented to CLIENT was well-received and the CLIENT NAME is excited to move on to next steps. I appreciate you sharing this with me and am looking forward to additional opportunities to showcase our creative thinking to CLIENT.”) Basically record everything and present it as your supporting materials/justification when asking for a raise.
Gather evidence of all you accomplished on both teams. Highlight what you've contributed since your switch five months ago (I assume), especially if it's impressive for being there for such a short time. Do some comparison analysis for your position and experience and bring that to the table.
Are you certain that your 1 year correlates? Many companies are on January or July cycles, where they bundle the raises at one time
Ours is a Nov promo cycle
