Rising Star
When I started asking questions like this. Time to bounce.
It's when you realize how much consulting counterparts make for the same level of experience, and how boring audit is in comparison along with the terrible busy hours.
I used to make 82k as a Senior in B4 accounting in 2020, networked and move to a consulting group. Changed jobs to a different B4 two years ago and now make 212k base and 40k bonus as a third year Manager at Deloitte in Strategy & Analytics with better WLB than in audit.
Self learned a lot of analytics, but we were already using a lot of Alteryx and Excel in my audit role. Up for SM in Consulting this year.
GT, I internally networked and transferred to consulting first (lateral internal transfer). Then switched to Deloitte about two years later (I also got promoted to M during that time at my original firm).
Once I saw how much of a shit hole it was and how little you get paid (in dollars, not in exit) for the work that you do
Thank God I was able to exit once I made manager
When you wake up and stop wanting to make the company more money in expense of your own personal time.
Don’t overstay if you want to do something else. It gets harder to make a career change the older you get
When u are the last one on the boat titanic style and you feel lonely and isolated because everyone else has already left
When 3 or 4 managers quit around the same time without any replacements or new hires.
For me it just sort of happened. Firm was slow walking my deserved promotion and a client offered it instead.
I knew a woman who realized this kind of late (at your level) but still made the move to FDD then IB. Or try to lateral to consulting or get an MBA from a top school
Before I even graduated, honestly. Audit and tax were the most boring classes I had. Technology and managerial were a blast, so I just did that.
Working as a partner in public accounting is a great experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Best of luck.
