I had to alter my lifestyle to adjust better on nighty duty. No matter how stressful my previous shift was, I always make sure to get a good 6-8 hours of sleep before the next shift. Then I noticed that I got less jumpy and paranoid at night as long as I was well-rested. Prescription melatonin supplements also helped a lot, way better than sleeping pills for me.
Nothing is more stressful and terrifying than an encounter at night. Don't forget to take care of your health.
