This has never happened to me. But I don't think it would be that difficult. Our team works really well together and I wouldn't feel any kind of way if one of my coworkers was tasked with leadership over me for a short period of time. And I think they feel the same way.

As someone who literally got promoted because of being out in charge while boss was gone. It really isn’t that hard. I managed 6 offices for over 6 months. Got promoted to actual assist office manager about 3 months in.

Congratulations for promotion
Firm, but fair. Don’t be overly flexible, but don’t be a tyrant either. If somebody is making excuses or clearly not doing what they should, remind them of expectations. I stepped into leadership being way too flexible, and it was immediately taken advantage of. I dialed it back, still open and understanding when something happens, but also outlining what should be done. Does anyone else struggle with that? I guess it depends a lot on the people, too.
You are welcome. It’s a hard line to be in the middle of, but it does get easier once it’s established. The initial turnover is rough, and especially having to step up temporarily doesn’t make it easier.
