So far it’s awesome.
Initial impressions after about 30 minutes putzing around with it:
• 90* cuts are clean out of the box.
• 45* miters are only a hair off, but that might be the pine I was using.
• The shadow cut line is really nice. I like it a lot more than the typical laser as I can see it far easier.
• The lighting mechanism for the cut line also doubles as a workspace light, which is awesome. I didn’t realize how much more comfortable it is having LED lights focused on your work.
• The slide is incredibly smooth. Almost no effort needed to move it and the slide lock is easy to engage.
• The material hold down is effective but more frustrating than useful, in my opinion, but I’m generally not a fan of these anyways so take it with a grain of salt.
• The adjustable/ extendable fence is a really nice feature for longer pieces of stock.
• The cutting lock is a nice feature. It’s well placed and easy to disengage but impossible to accidentally hit. It’s a nice safety feature to give you some peace of mind.
• The 60-tooth blade that comes with it out of the box has pretty clean cuts for a manufacturers blade.
I’ll post with more thoughts as I use it more.
Also, with the 20% off deal Lowe’s has through the end of the month, at $499, it feels like it is worth the money, considering Lowe’s is selling the DWS779 model at the same price.
Nice! Let us know what you think!
Do you have a particular blade that you like to use with a miter saw?
Typically I stick to Diablo blades. I’ve always been happy with the durability and cut quality. The out-of-the-box 60-tooth DeWalt blade that came with this is great so far. Normally I like to use 80-tooth blades for really clean cuts, but I’m happy with the 60-tooth blade so far.
