Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

All of us.
I made it to 63 and then started freelancing at an agency part time. I’m 66 now, can’t afford to retire but also like working. I’m one of the lucky ones — found a company that values my experience as I’m surrounded by people mostly less than half my age. It helps that I specialize in healthcare, but I’m also an anomaly. We’re not in a business that respects age or generally values experience. But mostly, agencies don’t want to pay high salaries. Very few people have fought ageism in advertising and until someone has the courage to do so, forget about retiring when you’re ready.
Well put SD1... glad you are “...one of the lucky ones...”. Hope I can be too, even part time. Just need to make it to Medicare!
Come let’s walk into the doldrums together. 🤝
In-house is the inevitable (near) future, and the internal recruiters at most big co’s are hesitant to hire career agency people these days (unless you are still early in career and can make the jump.) Other options: Start your own agency by 50/55 and make yourself CCO, or pivot to another option. Like opening a retail store or bagel shop in your town. A chance to reconnect with normal people again before you kick it 😆
Only 1% (probably less) will be able to retire from this industry. How many 65+ people work in your agency?
If you’re +60 in an agency you either own it or you’re at the reception desk. This only speaks to how reactive agencies are and how much less they are valued these days.
Bankroll as much as you can. This is not an industry that lets you retire on your terms.
🙋🏻♂️
Want to? Nobody. Need to? Probably a lot.
Yep. 54. Laid off twice in 2 years. Worked solid from 22-52.
I’ve worked in agencies for two decades. I’ve never been to a retirement party...
I’ve freelanced most of my career, am now 59 and still freelancing. There was a point where I started reading early retirement blogs and realized that while I won’t retire early, lol, if I wanted to retire at all its all about taking control, disavowing the materialism I’m complicit in selling, and saving until it hurts. The system is stacked against us but we’re paid well, this can be done.
