lol 2000 and it’s not close. You want to be unremarkable and not noticed. If you are at 1600 you will be focused on.

What are you talking about? 1600 hours is game over sooner or later. 2000 hours is the bare minimum.

“Prob like 1700” sounds like a guess. I still haven’t met someone at a v50 that billed less than 2000 without special circumstances, but I have seen associates getting pushed out for anything less than 1800. Below articles show that at some firms average per day is above 13 hours and anything below 2400 is not good standing.

Not entirely sure how you are doing great work over the years with 400 annual hours of experience missing.
Unfortunately 2000 easy. Being a genius doesnt help you much in this field

Just hit your dang hours. For the love of god - sales cures almost all. As a specialist, I’m in demand bc I’m really good and what I do and I do my work and also help M&A. But my hours are also high so folks dgaf. Absent being a negligent moron, excellence only matters when a) you’re with sophisticated clients on niche issues, b) negotiate have stalled and you bring in over the line, c) you perform a turn around victory.
Most of your work is keeping the lights on. And as an associate, your skill is developing big time. So if you want the wrong attention, try 1600 hours.
If it was 2,000 doing lackluster work this would be a tougher question. But if someone’s work is solid and they’re hitting their hours, it means they’re meeting all their performance metrics whereas the person doing great work at 1,600 is still missing a piece of the puzzle.
If you do excellent work in big law, you’re going to be getting more work, so an excellent + 1600 situation is not very realistic unless you’re turning down work, and if you’re doing that at 1600 hours I think you have a pretty big problem.
