They are giant companies and just because one group is laying a bunch of people off doesn't mean other groups aren't growing? Or those same groups don't have specific holes in specific cities. Or... It isn't like all 400K+ people all have the same skill sets or are located where the work is and are interchangeable.
This is the answer.
Big 4 will never not actively recruit
They still need pipeline for lower cost talent.
Just like new customers cost more but are valued more
The new hires don’t actually cost more because you’re able to cut fat from prior classes
cutting the bottom performers and hiring new gives the firm pipeline for growth …
Likely to replace people let go for not performing well or to fill spots in groups that need people and didn’t let people go
Big 4 lost prior age discrimination cases due to only recruiting young people on campus for entry level. The linked in job postings are a response to those cases.
There are managerial theories where each year the bottom 10% is released to make room for new blood. I would never support EY management but it is not totally without Merritt. I think there are many fine companies to work for with a better work life balance.
Idk my teams hired like 4 people in the last few months. Still need layoffs to reduce the low performers
