Do you have a limit on the number of students on your caseload? What is the maximum number you’ve had while still teaching a full class schedule? Are you responsible for all aspects of the IEP (ie, scheduling with parents & staff; writing the IEP; submitting it/filing it; sharing copies; progress monitoring on each student, etc)?

I thoroughly enjoyed watching a woman with small dogs scream at another woman who had her big dog in the small dog park. I constantly see people bringing their big dogs to the small park area and think it’s so selfish… leave it to a random new Yorker to drop the heat 😂
Don’t you love presenting work you hate to clients 😭😭😭. We started with something great but as it went around the team members it really got diluted to something… well not good, and now I’m presenting it 🥸 AND I SOUND LIKE I LOVE IT 😭

Anyone at forbes advisor?
Had the weirdest interview ever. 10 min tech interview with no qns. 35 mins HR interview and collected all my docs and then ghosted me. On contacting they said no with no feedback.
Like what weird sort of company is that.
I want to give a shout out to a higher up that called me out for not being at a PHYSICAL site for a meeting, even though I was, and proved it by showing my computer camera to all members of the meeting after she went on a 45 sec rant on how everyone should “follow rules”...

How much time opentext takes to release offer letter? It has been a month now for me, they say it has been pending for approval and do not see any red flag.
What are average yearly hikes in opentext?

I wanted to start a thread. What vitamins / supplements / medications are you taking for your menopause symptoms? I’m supposed to take Estradiol pills twice per day but sometimes am horrible at remembering. I should be taking D3 per my Doctor but when I ran out earlier in the year I never bought more. The same goes for my multivitamin although I’m sure I really need one! I wonder if I should just use natural remedies like Black Cohosh, but that didn't work well for me.
Additional Posts in Big Law
Transitioning out of big law without a plan…. any thoughts? I am a first year and I’ve decided to leave BL at the end of this year. I am trying to stay on top of various opportunities and I have an open offer at a non-profit. However, this is all very nebulous. Assuming nothing comes into focus by the end of the year, has anyone been in my shoes (i.e. ditching big law early without a clear trajectory)? What did you do?
I’d like to show a little appreciation for the paralegals on my case teams for admin professionals day next month. They work in different offices, and I don’t know them personally as I’m a junior who started during the pandemic and we generally interact during hectic filings. Any ideas on how to show appreciation in a not weird way?
I suck at this job. I make mistakes all the time and partners get on me about them. It’s not because I try to make mistakes but they just happen, far more frequently than I’d like. I’m a third year so I have no clue how I lasted this long to be honest. My anxiety levels are on a 10 because I’m so used to being an overachiever but my suckiness is standing out big time.
I need thoughts and opinions on leaving a firm I just started at 3 months ago. It hasn’t been the worst experience but also hasn’t been the best. I was made to believe I would be practicing a lot in labor and employment (which is what I wanted to be doing) and I’m actually mostly doing general commercial litigation. I want to be doing L&E but I’m afraid of what it will look like to my current employer (and the people who have been kind to me there) to jump ship so soon. Thoughts?
How does one choose between two equally well respected big law firms? I feel like I should go off more than just who I liked more in the interview. I guess whoever lets me work remotely longer? Any other thoughts would be welcome.
Happy to report that the week gone by was very relaxing compared to an intense June. Less than 40 billable hours on my timesheet last week. Went to the gym four times. And finished Season 1 of Stranger Things on Netflix. Life is good again!
What is partner compensation like, as a function of the publicly released “profits per partner” data? I assume it varies based on the profitability of one’s practice—but how much does it vary?
Any of you use meal prep services? Which one is your favorite and why? In Texas if that makes a difference.
My favorite line from LinkedIn posters bashing biglaw: “I never wanted biglaw.” So edgy.
How do you guys avoid coming off as condescending when giving feedback? I’m only a second year but I am effectively in charge of a couple smaller cases. I have a new first year working on first drafts for me who I’m trying to teach what little I know. I’m struggling to tell them when they do things wrong because I don’t want to come off as arrogant and I also don’t want to bring it up with the partner and make them look bad.
Is it a bad look to accept an offer now and tell the new employer I can only start after the second week of the new year? My current firm gives out bonus at the last week of each year. If I give my notice before the new year, I won’t get the year end bonus. Although it probably won’t be huge, but it’ll certainly be nice to have with all the inflation going on.
Incoming: mass exodus from A&P
Tips for using free time effectively in order to avoid burnout? I had a really tough winter and spring. In the last few months, things have been busy but not all-consuming. I actually have a bit of free time on the weekends/evenings but I’m finding that it doesn’t make me feel refreshed or rested. I don’t really feel like I’m getting mental space from work, even though I can theoretically “unplug” a bit. Any habits or hobbies that help you create balance and separate yourself from work?
Does anyone think “market” and lockstep salaries in biglaw are on their way out? Part of me thinks that DPW and Cravath not matching Milbank are them saying they won’t be bullied and they’re just going to pay what they pay. It’s only natural for firms to go black box from here
DLA is hiring for its sports and entertainment group (of which I am a part). please PM me for more info - must be 4-6 years with prior entertainment transactions experience - preferably some at firm. Great opp for the right person
Might be landing my first referral bonus with a friend in next week or so. I really enjoyed helping my friend through the process. Feel like it is a win for him, me and the firm. The firm still has a lot of opening. How would you react to getting cold emailed by an associate offering to talk about coming to the firm?
What do you like most about litigation? I'm happily transitioning from corporate to litigation very soon and want to hear from people who actually enjoy their work. HAPPY ANSWERS ONLY!

I will say technically the lines are red, blue and green (at least if you’re doing it properly in workshare compare, the one true software) but still “redline” makes 200x more sense than “blackline”.
A8, I also do any handmarkups in purple for this reason! Excellent life choices. (Or am I the transactional associate you adopted this from 🤔)
One of my partners calls it whatever color the edits show up.... greenline, blueline, purpleline. That is probably the most technically accurate, but it drives me nuts. Redline or bust! (I should also add he has corrected me when saying “redline” to be like “no, it’s purpleline” at which point, I give up 😂😂😂)
😭😭 these are the things that make me beyond annoyed when a partner’s favorite word is “efficiency.” H O W
It dates back to before email when markups were done by hand and then B&W photocopied for distribution to supervisors. The lines were all black. Only one old partner says that here.
(It’s because it’s what the judge on his matter and the rest of his team use but it’s still like nails on a chalkboard every time)
Lol. Half of my partners call if blackline, the other half call it redline. I’ve learned what to call it for each partner.
They’ve asked me to do it. I don’t question it.
Aren’t they interchangeable (serious question)? I’m feel like some attorneys like to say the opposite of what I say just because.
“BLACKLINE” (lol @ autocorrect automatically putting that in all caps) sounds pretentious to me
I like your despotic style. You ever consider running for King of Everything?
I’m a boomer. I only see in black and white.
Old people say blackline. Us young millennials use redline
“Young millennials” 😂 excuse me while I straighten my side part
Is this a boomer thing?
Generally Banking lawyers call it Blackline and others not so much
Canadian lawyers only say blackline. Redline is a US thing
Think it’s because blackline sounds more polite. Redline sounds like you corrected something and the doc is bleeding. Blackline sounds more neutral. At least that’s the theory one partner told me and I liked it. Hate the term redline
“In today’s world, there’s rarely an instance where it makes sense to refer to a redlined document as blacklined” 👏👏
You can really tell people’s age by who calls it a black line… but I agree with someone else. I call it whatever the partner calls it.
We generally say “run a comparison” in our office 🤷🏼♂️
Either a comparison or blackline. People tend to know what you’re talking about and I really don’t think they give it that much thought.
